An important Scottish Arts & Crafts fire basket made and stamped by James Bennet, Robert Lorimer’s chief blacksmith. The semi-circular railed basket is supported by a central front leg, with a shaped riveted fire back flanked by crescent hooks and scrolled finial uppermost. Maker’s stamp to fire back J Bennet, Arncroach. James Bennet was the chief blacksmith and close family friend to the Scottish architect Robert Lorimer, who was a committed advocate of the Arts and Crafts approach to architecture.  Restored.  Circa 1890
