Early Carron Co Wrought Kitchen Grate

A large 18th century wrought-iron kitchen grate made by Carron Company of Falkirk (Scotland); with spit and adjustable side panels. This grate was most likely built for a manor house or tavern as it supports a large roasting spit. It also has the original wooden pulleys to turn the spit. The mechanisms include:- crank-operated hobs (to vary burning area), hinged top-bar and kettle and pan supports. This grate has been fully restored and is in perfect working order. Lettered on left-hand plinth foot ‘CARRON’.
