An Alfred Stevens Brass Register front with figures to freize. Restored.
Circa 1850
Alfred Stevens (1818 – 1875) was a British sculptor. From 1850 – 1857 he designed grates, fenders and other ornate metalwork for Messrs. Hoole & Co., of Green Lane Works, Sheffield, some of which were exhibited for the Universal Exhibition of 1851. Figure 5 from ‘Notes on some Works by Alfred Stevens from 1850-1857’ shows the design for the freize of this register.
His best known work is the monument to the Duke of Wellington in St Paul’s Cathedral.
