This sarcophagus grate has its major elements marked S & S and believed to be from the Clerkenwell founders Skidmore and Son (1793-1811). The fire bars and fret are polished wrought-iron while the main structure is cast-iron, supported on paw feet set on plinths. The anthemion decoration to the hob fronts are unusual as they are made from pewter.
